Fine Louis XV/XVI Transitional marquetry roll-top desk attributed to Pierre Roussel. The roll top opens by pulling the writing slide out, revealing a leather covered writing surface. The interior nest of drawers has six drawers, three of which are functional, all delicately veneered with marquetry scenes of villages. For a closely related example, see Nicolay, L’Art et La Manière des Maitres Ébénistes Français au XVIII Siècle, figure f, p.413-414.
Pierre Roussel, Master in 1745.
