Fine pair of Sèvres hard paste vases ovoïdes, circa 1780. The vases have a beau-bleu ground with exceptional gilding.  The reserves are finely painted with historical military scenes on one side and military trophies on the other attributed to Charles-Eloi Asselin. Asselin was one of the first painters at Sèvres to paint on hard paste. [One top is repaired. Both rims chipped.]

Gilder’s mark: “HP” for Henri Prévost

Another pair of vases of this model but in soft-paste porcelain is in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

A single vase of this form is preserved in the Huntington Art Gallery.
