| Rare Restauration pendule-cage in a glass and bronze doré case enclosing a highly skeletonized anonymous movement. The rectangular plinth is decorated with a series of interlaced circles centered with rosettes, below a stepped raie de coeur molding embellished with acanthus on a well chased ground. An upright rectangular glass case with ormoulu framing decorated with laurel and berry borders encloses the movement; the dial is crested with a bow and has a trophy of oak and laurel branches below. The case is inscribed “THOMIRE” on the rear. Original gilding.
The unusual and highly skeletonized repeater movement, with a sweep seconds hand, has a back-painted transparent dial with an outer ring marking time and the day of the month, and an inner ring inscribed with the day of the week opposing its astronomical symbol. There is a pin-wheel escapement with a metal suspension for an iron rod pendulum; the ormoulu bob is decorated with a Wedgwood porcelain plaque depicting the Three Graces. There are half hour and hour strike hammers on a single bell. [Pendulum possibly not original.] |
