Louis XV regulateur by Lieutaud and Voisin

Louis XV marquetry régulateur du parquet by Balthazar Lieutaud with exceptional ormoulu mounts. The slightly bombé grandfather clock’s serpentine form is outlined with well chased rococo mounts consisting of scrolls and floral motifs. The enclosed reserves and sides are veneered with fine floral marquetry on a tulipwood ground with a musical trophy on the door between the dial and the large ormoulu-framed viewing window for the pendulum.
The movement is signed on the silvered dial “henry Voisin AParis” and on the backplate of the movement “henry Voisin”. The eight-day weight driven movement has a Graham escapement and indicates seconds. [Lacking weights.]

Signed three times on the interior – on the top of the door; below the door on the carcase; and upside down under the movement: B LIEUTAUD.

There is a nearly identically mounted plain veneered clock in the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris by Duhamel, who frequently worked with Lieutaud. (See: Tardy: La Pendule Française; Tardy, Paris 1962. Page 88.)
