Pair Portuguese walnut sidechairs

Very fine pair of well carved Portuguese walnut sidechairs. Each reticulated back is crested with a facing asymmetric rococo wave above the shaped back. The frame is carved with rocailles, shields and cabochons and surrounds the splat which is composed of a complex pattern or intertwined bandings. Each rail is centered by an elaborate rocaille. The chairs rest on rocaille-headed cabriole legs terminating in bird claws grasping balls. The chairs are constructed with through tenons from the side rails into the rear rail. [Possible original finish.]
