Fine
and rare Sèvres green ground soft paste vase ‘étrusque à cartel’ attributed to Genest. The vase is decorated with
a very well painted reserve of a port attributed to Jean-Baptiste-Étienne Genest.
Two Turkish merchants discuss a transaction with a Frenchman on a quay; a
barrel on the dock is dated 1777 and is inscribed with an “E”. The rear reserve
is painted with a motif consisting of three interlaced rings.
Genest
was head of painting at the Sèvres factory, and was thus exempted from signing
his work.
